so much to do

I had to bring Lincoln to my last doctors appointment.  With him being sick I didn't feel like I could ask anyone to watch him.  I was measuring small so Dr. Walsh said that she wanted me to have an ultra sound at my next appointment just to make sure the baby was growing properly.  Today was the ultra sound day and the baby is smaller than he should be.  The tech said 5lbs 13oz.  Dr Walsh said he looks good, but she wants to be safe and induce me on Thursday.  It's convenient timing.  Drew doesn't teach any classes on Thursday or Friday and Monday and Tuesday the college is closed for fall break.  But for some reason I'm really nervous.  Maybe it's because the basement bedroom isn't done yet.  Lincoln is still in the crib and I have a bunch of baby clothes to wash.  I guess ready or not we'll be a family of 6 on Thursday. And yes I have been saying the whole time that my due date is 10/10, but I'm hoping for the end of September.

home alone

Drew's cousin, Michelle, got married on the 22nd.  I've been looking forward to her wedding for a long time.  I was really disappointed that I wasn't able to go.  I still wanted Drew to be able to go.  He told me he was going to take all the kids.  I asked if he was going to take Lincoln and his response was "why wouldn't I take Lincoln?".  Drew pulled Molly out of school after lunch on Friday and then the 4 of them headed off to Chicago.  I asked Drew what I was supposed to do all by myself and all he said was not to have the baby.  There is something nice about being home alone and sad.  Since this kind of thing never happens I decided to take advantage and work on some projects I've been wanting to do.  I made this earring holder. 

Saturday morning I slept in and then went shopping.  I went to Hobby Lobby, Ross, Kohl's, and my favorite thrift store.  At Hobby Lobby I got the stuff to make this necklace for Molly.  It's glass tile.  On the front is an M and on the back is scrap booking paper.  I think it's cute. 

{While we were in Nebraska in July we went to the haymarket's farmers market.  Something I really miss.  There was a booth with people selling glass tile jewelry.  Their's was beautiful.  Mine is a cheap knock off.  I should have bought a necklace...  Hopefully they'll have a booth next summer, then I'll be better prepared.}

 

At Kohl's I bought an outfit to bring the baby home in and at the thrift store I got a Hawaiian shirt.  I cut it up and turned it into a scarf for the Luau murder mystery dinner I went to last night.  So fun.  It was a nice weekend, but I'm excited for my family to come home.

poor baby

Lincoln's molars have been swollen for a long time now.  Maybe a month?  He has been drooling and his nose has been running off and on.  I assumed it was part of getting teeth.  Saturday morning he woke up breathing really bad.  You could see his ribs and he sounded terrible.  We hooked up the nebulizer gave him a treatment and then waited.  Why do we always get sick on the weekends?  After waiting for an improvement and not seeing one we called the doctor.  The kids doctor is open until 1 on Saturday the nurse we talked to said she could have us come in, but we would be referred to the children's hospital so she recommended that we skip the middle step and take him to Kosair.    Friday I had told Drew I wanted to get out of the house Saturday.  When I said that I was thinking more along the lines of going to Hobby Lobby and Target not sitting at the hospital, but ya know.  When we got there the triage nurse checked his oxygen levels.  Lincoln was at 98%.  I thought great they'll probably think I'm crazy and send us home.  Lincoln got another breathing treatment...didn't help.  Two people said they heard wheezing when they listened to him.  Two other people said they didn't hear anything.  Then another doctor came in and said she heard a crackle and ordered an x-ray.  After spending the day at the hospital Lincoln was diagnosed with pneumonia.  We were given an antibiotic and sent home.  The whole time he's been acting like his usual happy self.  I'm hoping this isn't the start of permanent breathing problems.  :( boo.   

september days

I wake Molly up around 7:45 to start getting ready for school.  This is what the first 10 minutes or so of our mornings look like.  Everyone huddled together on the couch with their blankets.  They're freezing.  I have to be honest I LOVE it that it's starting to cool off at night.  Yay for fall and not sweating to death.

 Then everyone (everyone usually being Drew, Gabe and Lincoln) walks Molly around the corner to the bus stop.  Lincoln's favorite part of the morning. 

 I love Gabe's imagination.  We have a toy box overflowing with dress up clothes.  Gabe has numerous costume changes throughout the day.  He's really creative.  One of my favorites is Indiana Jones.  He puts on his cowboy hat, slings a purse over his shoulder ("Indiana Jones always has a bag to put treasures in") we don't have a whip so he'll either attach his light saber or a sword to his makeshift "seat belt" (love it that he calls belts seat belts.  always makes me smile).  Very cute. 

 This is Blue.  Lincoln L.O.V.E.S. him.  L can't sleep without him.  Lincoln sleeps on top of him and likes to chew on him.  It's gross.  Blue is perma stinky and dirty, but he's also really loved. 

 At 4:00 everyone is excited to get Molly.  We watch for her bus to drive by and then we know it's time to start walking to our stop.

school has started

My sister in law pointed out that it's been a LONG time since I've updated our blog, "school has started and that's unacceptable"...   I feel the need to make excuses, but the truth is there aren't really any good ones.  I've been a crummy blogger for the past year now...  Taking a ton of pictures and then never posting them.  We went out of town for July.  It was GREAT.  When we got home I felt kind of like I needed a vacation from our vacation.  I was worn out, but life moves on swimming lessons started the next day.  Then we were trying to get back on schedule and get ready for school.  busy busy busy.

 

School has started for Miss Molly.  I can't believe that my little lady is in kindergarten.  She's loving it.  She's going to the school I wanted her to go to.  Her teacher's great.  All of the moms at our bus stop are in love with the bus driver.  Drew asked if he should be worried :)I'm excited about the upcoming year.

The first week and so far this week has gone really well.  Molly has homework every night that she's always excited about.  She also has her first spelling test on Friday.  what?  Well that's what I said.  A spelling test for a kindergartner the second week of school.?.  It's one word, RED.  I guess it helps that she already knew that one.  We'll see what next week brings.

Other News

Yesterday I had a doctors appointment.  The ultra sound said Lil man is 5lbs.  He's very compact.  I didn't get to see any images of his face, it was covered by his feet and hands.  With 6 weeks to go that means that he should be close to 8lbs.  We will see.  I'm excited to meet him.  People keep asking me how I'm feeling.  I always shrug and say good.  I really should say big, tired, forgetful,and awkward.  mmmm.  6 more weeks give or take.

Drew started tearing apart the basement bedroom.  Right now he's out buying insulation.  exciting and a little sad.  I'm excited for Molly to have her own girly room, but I'm selfishly a little sad to be losing my craft room.  I've also come to the sad realization that I'm a hoarder. :(

Lincoln is getting 5 teeth at the moment.  Ahhh!  I have a very drooly crabby boy who I still can't get enough of.  He's obsessed with shoes and walks around the house in his and everyone elses.  My favorite is when he walks around in Drew's shoes.  Sometimes it's frustrating when we're trying to leave in a hurry and no one can find any shoes that match, but for the most part it's just adorable.  Speaking of my hording I found 5 or 6 pairs of old shoes that belonged to Gabe.  When Lincoln woke up and found them it was like Christmas.  So e.x.c.i.t.e.d 

Gabe is looking for ways to keep busy now that Molly's in school.  He should have been starting preschool next week, but there was a problem with his application.  The whole application mess/run around with the early childhood program made me so mad.  In the end Gabe will get to spend another month with me.  Which is fine.  I wish I felt better so that we could get out more.  We've been keeping ourselves busy cooking, having nerf wars, reading books, watching movies and running errands.  Gabe is a little ball of energy.  I wish I could borrow some.

Happy Anniversary!

7 years ago today I married my best friend.  For dinner Drew surprised me and took me to the Paula Dean buffet at the casino across the river.  really g.o.o.d.  We wanted to try everything.  Which was fun, but by the time we got to the dessert section we were full.  We only tried a couple of those before we felt like we would probably burst.  Sad.  We should have known better.  Always start with dessert. ;)  We probably gained a few pounds, but it was a nice evening without the kids.

Happy Earth Day

Last year Drew got a merit bonus.  Everyone on the committee said that they couldn't remember a first year faculty member being awarded the bonus. Needless to say we were excited.  The plan for the money was a new grill and then the rest would go to something equally as exciting like savings.  Well unfortunately the air conditioner decided to break  :(  Drew being fiscally responsible used the money for a new air conditioner.  I've been saving the money I get from watching B and decided to get Drew a new grill.  I'd love to be able to surprise Drew, but I'm not the griller.  If I was choosing a grill I would get the one that looked the prettiest.  So we went grill shopping and then Drew did lots of research online.  We had the grill picked!  A couple weeks went by and then I randomly saw Lowe's had our grill on sale for Earth Day.  yay.  I had a dream that I got their too late and the store was out of grills.  After the kids were loaded on the bus Lincoln, B and I headed to Lowe's.  I got the last one on the last day of the sale.  Yay!  L.O.V.E. I.T.  Lots of mixed reviews on previous infared grills, but this is a new design that will hopefully hold up better than previous models.  Not having the fire touch your food results in perfect grill marks, really juicy meats, being able to throw dried wood chips right on the grill and no flare ups.  Drew's been grilling pizzas for a while now.  They always turn out well.  I was a little nervous about how they'd turn out on this grill because of how hot it cooks everything, but we've had our best pizza yet.  Here is to happy grilling.
