Day 2
Uncle Ben's Track Conference
We got to the Hillcrest track a little after 5 on Thursday. It was super hot and being on the metal bleachers added a nice little something. :) But we had to support Uncle Ben.
Lincoln looking cute on grandma's shoulder.

Here they come...There they go...
Ben's relay. I think they came in 2nd... All of the boys who ran got personal best times.Picnicing in the stands while we waited for Ben to run the mile.
Julie and Drew look thrilled that I brought my camera :)
Clear skies at 6 and then an hour later the wind picked up and the weather changed.
Just after 7 lightening started and everyone was evacuated out of the stands and into the school's gym. Drew overheard one of the starters saying that 3 years ago a boy was struck by lightening and died at a track meet. Now they don't take any chances. We waited a little while, then apologized to Ben and left. Sadly my parents took Ben home at 9. He didn't get to run his last event (that he was supposed to win. sad.). Conference couldn't be rescheduled because a few of the schools had prom the next day so everyone waited out the weather in the gym. The race resumed around 10:15 and ended at 11:30.
*Side note* Ben got to run the mile at sectionals and got his best time yet. 5:01 Not too shabby.

Day 1
The Lincoln Park Zoo
I hadn't been to the Lincoln Park Zoo in forever. (For anyone not familiar with Chicago, it's a free zoo on the north side of the city. Don't let the word free fool you it cost $1 million to park... j/k, but really $30 is pretty steep for 4 hours.) It was a fun day out with my parents.
and here comes picture overload:
Gabe really wanted a picture with this guy
The seals weren't out, but Molly and Gabe didn't care. Instead they happily tormented the seagulls.
In one of the buildings they had this awesome play structure. SO. MUCH. FUN. It was hard convincing Molly and Gabe to leave.

ta da

Before

After
my painting companion (who slept another 8 hours!!!)

I decided to paint the kids bathroom yesterday. This morning I finished the second coat. (I almost did the whole thing myself. Drew had to help me tape the ceiling above the toilet and tub. If only I was a couple feet taller;) ) I LOVE it. I think the bathroom looks taller and cleaner. I've never really liked the tile in our bathrooms, but with the paint I think it makes the tile look sharp. All of the white on white before didn't make anything look special. (This bathroom is the same color as Molly and Gabe's bedroom. Benjamin Moore's mt. ranier gray)

Remember when we went to the Speed Art Museum? I framed the pictures Molly and Gabe painted. I also framed the kids hand/foot prints. I'm excited to hang them in the "toy area" of the basement. I love adding color. Speaking of color I'm excited and hopping to be able to post pictures of the basement soon. The wall that the pictures are leaning on is by the basement stairs. No more dark wood paneling for us. Well almost. About 1/2 the basement is painted. It's amazing what paint and baseboards can do.

whoop whoop

Guess who slept through the night last night...

me and Lincoln

We put Lincoln in his bed at 10:30 and he woke up at 6:20. That's just shy of 8 FABULOUS hours. I don't have the highest hopes of it continuing. I'm super jealous of people who have kids that can teach themselves how to sleep through the night. Unfortunately that has never been me. (Lincoln has also been really crabby this afternoon. I'm not sure what to do. If you've ever met Lincoln you know he's not a crier. Drew thinks it's because he slept through the night...)

*****************************************

Drew's just getting home from watching a practice round of the PGA tour. I could probably think of 50 things that would be more fun, but when the golfing buddies have a free ticket.... I guess you go? :)
